My real life name is Wendy. Nope, I’ve never been to never land… And I’ve never really known anyone whose name is Peter either (Is that weird?), let alone had a pixie try to murder me (that I know of).
I like to use a lot of brackets. I go off on tangents a lot (in real life too). I also use a lot of dot dot dots… But I’m trying to stop doing that so much… It’s an everyday battle. Sometimes I say words weird; especially when I’m tired, like “saeds” instead of “seeds”, or “mewn” instead of “moon”. I guess it’s much funnier in person than in writing on the internet.
I live just a teeny bit north of Calgary, Alberta. I don’t live in an igloo, although I would like to try and make one someday… just to say that I have. In fact, I have never even seen an igloo in real life. I live with my boyfriend, our 2 dogs and 2 cats. We are renters. You’ll see a lot of pictures of the yard, and maybe the house. We have a pretty awesome landlord that lets us live here as if it was our own place.
I like horses…. I am obsessed with horses is probably more accurate description though. They are a vast majority of my life… And my job… I currently work at a Dressage Stable. Ask me things about horses and I can go on all day! (I have two retired horses that live back at home, basically at my parent’s house)
One day I would like to have our own land, and build our own house, grow our own food, raise our own animals, ride my own horses whenever I want, and just live. Until that day comes, I figure I could learn how to do all of these things so that if I do end up with my own land and raising my own animals, and growing my own food that I will know what to do… I’m starting where I am to get to where I’m going.
I started this blog as a way of documenting my journey to becoming more self-sufficient. I am very interested in homesteading and growing my own food, and figuring out how my great grandmothers managed to do all of this and still have tons of kids and no running water, central heating, electricity, modern conveniences or any of the things we take for granted every single day. They did ALL the things. (And most of them came here unable to speak English!) I feel like this very basic knowledge is being lost. So I am going to learn from my mistakes, and try to document all of them here. I also hope by putting this all out there, into the vastness of the internet, that I can gain some insight from people more experienced than myself. So please, ask me questions, give me advice, drop me a line, or show me a little internet love in some way. There aren’t a lot of blogs covering this area of the world, so any help I can get would be fantastic.
